Potential Server Issue -- returning 500 internal
  • After restarting my app last night, the ruby app now returns 500 Internal Error. Looking into the error logs, I see the following:

    "[Mon Sep 10 07:38:15 2012] [error] [client 174.50.88.153] Premature end of script headers: , referer: http://1.ai/restart
    [Mon Sep 10 07:38:21 2012] [error] [client 174.50.88.153] Premature end of script headers:
    [Mon Sep 10 07:38:28 2012] [error] [client 174.50.88.153] Premature end of script headers: , referer: http://1.ai/restart
    [Mon Sep 10 07:40:22 2012] [error] [client 174.50.88.153] Premature end of script headers: , referer: http://1.ai/restart
    [Mon Sep 10 07:40:23 2012] [error] [client 174.50.88.153] Premature end of script headers: , referer: http://1.ai/restart
    [Mon Sep 10 07:40:59 2012] [error] [client 174.50.88.153] Premature end of script headers: , referer: http://1.ai/restart
    [Mon Sep 10 07:41:00 2012] [error] [client 174.50.88.153] Premature end of script headers: , referer: http://1.ai/restart"

    I have checked locally, and my app seems to work fine (although it is entirely possible that this issue is on my behalf). Is there any way I can troubleshoot this issue myself? Or is it related to the server configuration?
  • Forgot to mention: the example perl app (I left it up and running) is still running and accessible (returns 200 OK).
  • I think you have a missing file or in the wrong location (is the css in the /public folder?)

    =utils.rb:176 time=2012-09-11 02:29:32.747 ]: *** Exception Errno::ENOENT in application (No such file or directory - data/style.css) (process 14130, thread # from /home/ai_wokkaflokka/www/BigOleTexas.rb:42:in `read'

    from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/markaby-0.7.2/lib/markaby/builder.rb:193:in `tag!'
  • That was exactly the issue. I failed to copy it over last night when I moved the file! I should have a fix in place now anyways, to catch those pesky 500s.

    Do you think I should keep my css in the Public folder? I have some files there, but some files in a folder named "data" that I created.
  • yes I usually have the css inside the public folder but you might do it different. I like your design and app ! very nice.
